All Smiles
03:13
|
|||
There's a friend of mine sometimes I used to see his handsome face looking so sad.
Then he met someone who told him there'd be no more suffering and no more bad.
So now he's put away that frown,
and he can only make one sound,
and he's all smiles.
There's a friend of mine sometimes I used to see her cracking up under the strain.
then she met someone who told her there'd be no more misery and no more pain.
A happy face is what she's found,
she's turned that frown upside down,
and she's all smiles.
There's some friends of mine sometimes they used to tell me they were tired of being strong.
then they found something that told them it was all a dream and there was nothing wrong.
they're looking on the sunny side
and I just want to run and hide.
run and hide
'cause they're all smiles.

Home
04:08
|
|||
Home. watered and fed, he's gone and said the wrong thing again.
you'd think by now he'd know how far to go
but then now and then
when he gets carried away and starts meaning what he says
and he's a figure in somebody's fun
you know slapstick doesn't hurt
it's just custard down your shirt
and he's no harm to anyone
and now they don't get a choice
it's the sound of his voice driving all the way.
but they don't know he cant stop
and nobody's got the time of day.
And when he gets carried away like he did the other day
and there's that word offensive well hey,
you know he doesn't need a drink
to say what other people think
but he's no harm
defenceless really.

Free Spirit
02:47
|
|||
Well I'm a free spirit she said,
and here I come right back from the dead.
To put a new hole in your life.
It's way too free of trouble and strife.
And don't tell me that I can't have my way.
You're someone I could lie with all day .
My needs and desires are burning right down my wires,
what d'you say?
'cause I'm a free spirit I'm here
to put another dent in your year.
Make me feel like a goddess on heat
Hey that old wound ain't looking too neat no more
well I'm sorry that you bet all you had.
It's the luck of the game don't feel too bad.
You threw the dice and you lost,
Baby there's always a cost,
but I can't help you not me,
'cause then I couldn't be a free spirit.

Matter Much
03:05
|
|||
where you were last night and what time you'll be home,
whether I was right and who answered your phone
as long as i feel your touch
It doesn't matter much to me
the things you lied about, the money that you spent
and my nagging doubt and how you pay your rent.
as long as I feel your touch
It doesn't matter much to me
Past acquaintances with knowledge in their eyes
time spent waiting on my own
I don't have the faintest idea, life's full of surprises
You've got everything I own
wasted days and nights , the times you never showed
and all those drunken explanations that I'm owed.
as long as I feel your touch
It doesn't matter much to me

I Don't Know
03:03
|
|||
They've done well, lots of toys and ornaments
and brand new smells,
and nothing's ever what she wants
and she's got time to pick and chose, to hire and fire.
But it's no crime to sit and watch the tumble drier, I know
no, I don't know.
I'm on the take, and I'm not the man I think I am
a sad mistake, and I don't like green eggs and ham
and quiet wealth.
Let people choose their poverty
stay blind and selfish.
thing's ain't what they ought to be, I know.
No, I don't know.

I Think I Love You
02:55
|
|||
I'm colourblind but i think you've got dark green eyes.
the lines around them coming as no surprise.
a beauty professional told you you over-smiled.
I can't see it myself but it's probably been a while.
Is that a grey sky turned blue?
what will it all come to?
you've got better things to do,
I think I love you.
Your widow's peak kills me whatever that might mean.
They dyed your hair, not the most beautiful thing I've seen.
I held your hand for twenty three second when we were pissed.
You sort of went home and I think of the calls I missed.
Could you be my dream come true?
Could I be the person who
you could come running to?
I think I love you
I love you
and most of the things you do.
Oh what I'd put you through
If only you knew.

Every Word She Said
04:04
|
|||
He lay on the bed and he looked at the ceiling,
hoping to avoid that familiar feeling.
The film on his laptop was failing to hit the spot.
He noticed the dark patches,
all of the nail heads.
the seventies lampshade
and every word she said
when she lay beside him,
seeing the same things.
And here in the here and now
all the things he won't allow to upset him all start bouncing on his bed.
And he's in the story past, and nothing ever seemed so vast.
and all he can hear is every word she said.
Every word she said.
He's off in the world of the passing acquaintance
and smiling and keeping up casual pretence
while all of the lights are switching off inside him.
The scene of the crime scene is coming to get him.
the sound of a tune that is bound to upset him
and nothing is moving,
nothing is moving,
nothing is moving,
nothing is moving,

Just Like Her Mother
03:50
|
|||
Here you come walking towards me up the street.
carrying your struggling load.
You look so delighted and I'm staring at my feet.
forgiven forgotten, nothing borrowed.
and you introduce us and I touch her hand.
hey look another feeling I dont need or understand.
She looks just like her mother,
and her eyes are all I see,
and you're not someone I've ever met
or you'd care her father wasn't me.
Your hair's a bit longer, no makeup, scrubbed and clean,
and you're in a rush so you'd better go.
They say women are stronger ,
well I see what they mean
was there ever us? I wouldn't know.
'cause I never loved you
not until now.
Not that it makes much difference anyhow.

More Than He Can See
02:29
|
|||
He swore blind on the phone
strangers living here alone.
Now he's left in a state
where they can operate.
and he says when he phones
"how's the kids and how's your home"
and he tries to reach me
but he wants more than he can see
No one's asking his advice
the working class in paradise
and she's flown over here,
and no one's fighting back the tears.
and I wish that he'd show
that I've got somewhere to go.
but he's frightened and free
and he wants more than he can see
It's the end of his day
its the morning here, hooray.
and he calls and he says
"I'm in the office up the stairs
and keep after it , son
just do and don't do what I've done
and don't worry about me
I just want more than I can see
"
